FROM OUR PROGRAM DIRECTOR

On April 7th Chris Morrow, President of the Western Region Taoist Tai Chi Society and an active Tai Chi instructor, together with a few of his colleagues will be present at our April 7th Self-Help meeting to provide us with a talk on the Society, show us the movement they teach, and then demonstrate a few exercises, followed by getting people to try a few moves. The health benefits from doing Taoist Tai Chi internal arts and methods are well known and have already been experienced by some of our current members of CASE. All agree that the practice of Tai Chi yields constructive health benefits and serves as another beneficial contributor to our on going growth and development.

Hope we top last month's meeting attendance of 37. As this is our last meeting until September, let's set a new record of attendance for this month!

Thanks for all your help and support over the past months. It has been a reward and an encouragement to myself, personally, to your executive and our telephone volunteers.

Dave Fleiger

How much sodium do you need?

Various organizations, including the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine, have published recommendations for daily sodium intake. Most recommend between 1,500 and 2,400 milligrams (mg) a day for healthy adults. A lower sodium intake has a more beneficial effect on blood pressure.

If you are older than 50, are black or have a health condition such as high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease or diabetes, you may be more sensitive to the blood pressure raising effects of sodium. As a result, aim for a sodium intake at the low end of the range recommended for healthy adults. Talk to your doctor about the sodium limit that's best for you.
